RGB MOVE – 18,839 Frames [Building Motion]

Filed under: motion, photography — ryan enn hughes @ 2:59 pm

Just finished production of RGB MOVE a few days ago. This motion arts project has been commissioned by CODE Motion Pictures – a branch of The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The final 2 minute product will play all across Vancouver during the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics on stadium screens, LCDs, and distributed via cellphones. RGB MOVE is a motion project shot entirely with a digital still photography camera. There are a lot technical and creative variables that went through vigorous testing prior to the shoot – these were conducted together with Photographer Arash Moallemi. Our light source was a fast recycling strobe unit – not a continuous light. RGB MOVE is the culmination of a lot of interdisciplinary thinking – making use of a mix of photography and film methodologies and tools. The below behind-the-scene photos are by Photographer Melissa Tait. There is also mini-doc being produced on this project (due out in December) that will touch on technical, creative, and collaborative processes. Big thank you to the production crew that helped make this project possible.

RGB MOVE – Final Tests

Filed under: motion, photography — ryan enn hughes @ 4:16 pm

Just finished the final round of technical tests for my upcoming project ‘RGB MOVE’ – a two minute motion arts project commissioned by The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Here’s a still image from our tests – very enthusiastic about the direction this project is taking.

RGB MOVE – Tests

Filed under: motion, photography — ryan enn hughes @ 7:12 pm

I spent this past weekend conducting tests for my upcoming project RGB MOVE. This motion arts piece has been commissioned by a division of The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. I’m collaborating closely with Beatboxer Scott Jackson (who is creating the soundscape), and Krump Dancer Amadeus Marquez (on-screen talent). I’m excited to be working with a really strong team and have high hopes for the final result which will be premiered all across Vancouver during the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Thanksgiving

Filed under: photography — ryan enn hughes @ 11:35 pm

I’ve been very busy as of late – in between alot of personal projects, commissions, commercial work – both photo and the moving image. Got a chance to take a day off though and have dinner with the family, north of Toronto, on a farm property my parents are moving to.

Motion Creative – 5DMKII

Filed under: motion, photography — ryan enn hughes @ 10:39 am

I co-created a short motion piece yesterday with Photographer/Director Arash Moallemi. We approached this motion project as if it were a photo shoot – a small crew, lots of multitasking in roles, and working at a fast/flexible pace. We shot the piece on two 5DMKII’s, making use of the variety of lenses we would normally use for photography. Here are a few behind-the-scenes pics from the day shot by Photographer Melissa Tait who doubled as a production assistant on set.

RGB MOVE – Building a Soundscape

Filed under: motion, music — ryan enn hughes @ 3:28 pm

I spent today collaborating with Beatboxer Scott Jackson who is working on the soundscape for my upcoming project ‘RGB MOVE’. This project has been commissioned by the Cultural Olympiad’s Digital Edition (CODE) Motion Pictures – an organization apart of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. I’m very optimistic about the direction of this project – it is incorporating a lot of technical ideas I’ve been developing over this past year, and I’m working with some very talented people who are bringing their unique skills into the mix.
