My contract with The Globe and Mail is wrapping up this week. It’s been a very busy and great summer. I’m looking forward to the Fall – a few personal studio projects and a bunch of motion projects are in the works.

As part of the Show Your Ontario Photography Contest Grand Prize, I was awarded ad space in The Globe and Mail Newspaper. This past week I’ve run an image from a portrait series in progress. The series focuses on my mother’s family – a very large Catholic family. The series contains over 40 portraits so far.

“Ryan Family” is a portrait series focusing on my Mother’s family – her maiden name is Ryan, and the reason for my first name. Here’s an image from the series still in progress – my Uncle Jack.

Last week I got caught in the storm that blanketed Toronto and the surrounding area in rain. 5 minutes before the storm hit where I was, my car broke down on Dupont.

A few days back I was sent on assignment for The Globe and Mail to get a portrait of comedian Bruce McCulloch. The Kids in Hall are in pre-production for a new mini-series due out in early 2010. I’m really looking forward to the series, as I’m big fan of the group.

I found out today that 3 motion projects I created have been accepted to The Toronto Urban Film Festival. The Festival coincides with The Toronto International Film Festival, and in a great venue for short work.

I was at the Caribana Parade in Toronto yesterday shooting a personal project I’ve proposed to The Globe and Mail. The parade is always a great experience. I shot just over 75 GB. The volume is due to the technique/end result of the project. The finished project will be up on The Globe’s site near the end of August. Below is a behind-the-scenes image of me in action taken by Yaz Rabadi, who was assisting me for the day. Although I was focusing on a motion project at Caribana, here is a gallery that The Globe and Mail published on their website.

This past week I covered the Coldplay concert at Rogers Centre. The atmosphere was very energetic. For those of you who aren’t photographers, big concerts are VERY strict and controlling of photography. First three songs only, with no movement, and luck of the draw positioning, as all the photographers get led into the pit at the same time. Here’s one of my favourite pics from the show.
