I’ve been in Hawaii for a week now working with Photographer Vincent Laforet helping to document Pro Surfer Jamie O’Brien. We have been using several Canon 5DII’s, and a RED ONE Camera System. I feel very at home with this emerging photo and motion hybrid technology. We have some great support gear here too, a steady cam rig, an RC Helicopter, and a serious post-production set up. I took the below photo with a Canon G9, I’ve haven’t owned a point and shoot until recently – and I love it.

Just finished shooting another short motion project. We were in the studio today torching flowers with aerosol cans and lighters – lots of fun. Definitely not to be tried at home. We had numerous safety precautions in effect. Three fire extinguishers, and a trained fire specialist on set – so again, not to be tried at home. A big thanks goes out to the whole production team; Arash Moallemi, Jessamyn Horsman, Yim Hung Kung, Darrell Faria, and Mike McMillan.

Spent the day in the studio today doing some macro large format photography. My background is in motion pictures, so this was my first experience with large format emulsion – something I’ve been wanting to work with for awhile. Thanks goes out to Photographer Arash Moallemi, who helped introduce me to all the gear – its definitely a different experience in image making. I found it dramatically slowed down the image making process, I thought more about what I was doing. Over the course of the day I shot only 10 frames. Very opposite to DSLR shooting.
